Monday-Spanish

In grades 1-2 and 3-4, we began by learning a couple praise songs. We learned "Yo Tengo Gozo" (I've got the joy joy joy) and also Padre Te Adoro (Father I Adore You). Then we continued by practicing our days of the week, months and seasons. Today we began to learn about the weather and various vocabulary words and frases associated with weather. We also learned a weather song.
"¿Qué tiempo hace? Hace sol. ¿Qué tiempo hace? Hace calor. ¿Qué tiempo hace? Está nublado. ¡Hace buen tiempo! ¿Qué tiempo hace? Hace frío. ¿Qué tiempo hace? Hace viento. ¿Qué tiempo hace? Está lloviendo. ¡Hace mal tiempo!" Translated: What's the weather? It's sunny. What's the weather? It's hot. Whats the weather? It's cloudy. It is good weather! What's the weather? It's cold. What's the weather? It's windy. What's the weather? It's raining. It is bad weather!
I also began TPR (total physical response) today to help the students remember the vocabulary words. Basically we act out the words in order to help us remember what they are! The students are all doing so well and learn so quickly!!

In grades 5-6 and 7-8, we reviewed weather vocabulary using TPR (total physical response). This is where we act out the vocabulary word in order to better remember what it means. We also sang our weather song. I had a worksheet for them to work on the phrases and terms we learned. Then we ended by playing heads up 7 up using vocabulary cards.  Instead of saying the person's name they have to say the vocabulary word when guessing who put their thumb down. They are so much fun to teach Spanish to! They are very enthusiastic and always want to learn more!

Monday

Today we covered math and reviewed for the science test tomorrow. We first went over the science study guide and then played a game to help the students study. The math homework for 7th is pgs. 65-66 #1-18, 1-2, 4-8. The math homework for 8th is pgs. 69-71 #1-12, 1-4, 1-9. They had both gym and music today for specials.

Spanish

Today the 5th/6th and 7th/8th classes began to learn weather vocabulary. We have so far learned the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, classroom vocabulary, body vocabulary, days of the week, months, seasons, and numerous phrases. The kids are having a great time singing songs, playing games and learning another language!!!

In 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th this week we practiced the days of the week, months and seasons. We have so far learned the alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers and many phrases. The kids enjoy the songs we sing and the games we play! They are catching onto Spanish quickly! It's amazing to me how much they can pick up when I speak completely in Spanish to them!

Field Trip

Today Mrs. Hartshorn, Mrs. Powers and I took the 7th and 8th graders to the Rouge River. We did some chemical testing on the river water to check its pH levels among other things. Despite the rain it was a successful trip! The students enjoyed learning the different tests and getting their results. Next week we will be comparing the groups' different results and analyzing them. Thank you Mrs. Hartshorn for setting this up!
