If you haven't seen it yet ask your student! It will be on Thursday during Spanish class. (5/6 is from 10:45-11:30 and 7/8 is from 11:30-12:15).

Since we had a half day today I only saw my students for Spanish!
All four classes reviewed days of the week, months, seasons, and weather today! We sang songs for each part and did several activities. For 1/2 and 3/4 we talked about what day it is today, what day it was yesterday and what day it will be tomorrow. We also talked about the date. I read them a book in Spanish about snow, since we are learning about weather. We also played sparkle with the months. In 5/6 and 7/8 we played pictionary with weather and also sparkle with the months.

Today 5/6 and 7/8 reviewed classroom vocabulary and also parts of the body. We used the whiteboard to practice classroom vocabulary. I said a word and they drew it! For parts of the body we sang songs ("Juanito Cuando Baila", "Dolor de Cabeza") and also played Simón Dice (Simon Says).

This week is a week of review! We will be reviewing something different that we have learned each day that I see them! Today in all grades we reviewed colors, shapes and numbers! We sang songs and did a variety of activities for each! For colors in 1/2, 3/4 we played eye spy and in 5/6, 7/8 I told them to draw a certain shape in a certain color to practice (completely in Spanish of course!). For numbers we played Sparkle. To play Sparkle you stand in a circle and because we did numbers we counted in order each student saying the next number. If there was a mistake made that student sits out and the next person continues the counting and once we reach the end (In 1/2, 3/4 we counted to 10 and in 5/6, 7/8 we counted to 20) the person after the person that said the final number was "Sparkled" and had to sit out. You continue until you have a winner!

Friday
Today we raked leaves in the neighborhood around the school! We did it in our friendship groups (this way we can mix up the grades and have them all interacting). After raking the leaves we all had hot chocolate and the kids had recess. Since it was a half day because it was the end of the marking period, we had the students in the classroom for about an hour until dismissal. In this time I saw the 5/6 graders for Spanish and also the 7/8 graders. We did activities using our family vocabulary words. We played charades and also I taped a card on their back and by asking questions in Spanish they had to figure out who they were! They did great!

Thursday - Spanish
1/2, 3/4: We have continued to study the weather vocabulary and sing our songs! On Wednesday we played a game and the kids got so into it! It was fun! I held up two vocabulary picture cards and I said the Spanish word. There were two students at a time and they had to correctly choose the card first in order to earn a point for their team. They did quite well!
5/6, 7/8: This week we have been studying family vocabulary. We have done a number of activities. I created a cross word for them, we played around the world and heads up 7 up with the vocabulary. We played flyswatter and today I handed out cards with a vocabulary word and by speaking completely in Spanish they had to find their pair. So if their card said sobrino (nephew) they had to find sobrina (niece). I wrote questions on the board that we practiced for them to discover who their pair was! They did quite well! They are learning so fast! ¡Me encanta!

Wow! It has been a couple days! Well this week the 7th and 8th graders have done a number of things! Both classes had a math test at the beginning of the week. The 7th graders have begun to study percents and the 8th graders have begun to study profit. In civics we learned about the Senate. In science we have been learning about elements and compounds. We are currently wrapping up a project on elements. Each student chose an element from the periodic table and then had to find various information about it and also create an advertisement that included the elements name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, cost and a slogan! The slogans they have come up with have blown me away! They are so creative! In Bible we have been talking about the early ministry of Jesus. We had a lesson about his first miracle (turning water into wine) and also when he cleared the temple of all the merchants. The Bible memory we are working on is Romans 13:1-3.
Thursday Homework: Science research, unfinished math problems (7th: pgs 80-82 # 1-13, 1-21, 1-4, 9-14. 8th: pgs. 85-86 # 1-6, 1-6, 1-14), redoing incorrect math answers on test, Bible memory.

The students had computers today as well which allows me to see just my seventh graders and then just my eighth graders which is always nice for math class!

Wednesday - Spanish
1/2 and 3/4: Today we began by singing our days of the week song and months/seasons song. They then tell me what day it is today, what day it will be tomorrow and what day was yesterday. After this we continued with weather. We reviewed our vocabulary and added more vocabulary today. Then we used the whiteboards to practice. I said the word in Spanish and they drew what it was. As we drew we practiced saying the word. They did a great job!
5/6 and 7/8: Today in Spanish we began by talking about what day it was and the date and then continued with weather. We reviewed our vocabulary and sang our weather song. Then I read the book Un Día de Nieve to them. They did a great job listening and understanding using the words they already know and also by looking at the pictures! Afterward we used the white boards to practice vocabulary. I would say the Spanish word and they drew what it was. As we drew we practiced saying the word. Finally we played heads up seven up with vocabulary words. Instead of guessing the name of the person they have to say the vocabulary word on their card.

Tuesday-Spanish
Today we reviewed our weather vocabulary. We sang our song to practice the phrases and finally played a game to reinforce the vocabulary. We played the game flyswatter. I had all of the terms written on a poster board. The students formed two lines. The front two people were ready with their flyswatters (I improvised with rulers) and I would say the word in English and they would have to find that word in Spanish on the poster board. Whoever found it first earned a point for their team. They were very enthusiastic and they did very well!
Tuesday
Today we began by analyzing the data we retrieved from our chemical tests on the river water from the Rouge last Thursday on our field trip. Thank you Mrs. Hartshorn for taking your time to take us to the Rouge River and to teach us these chemical tests! In Bible today we learned about when Jesus was tempted by Satan. We are learning the Bible verse Proverbs 12:22. We played Sparkle to practice the verse today. In math 7th learned about ratios. Their homework is on pages 68-69 #1-23. 8th learned about calculating discounts. their homework is on pages 72-73 #1-7, 1-4, 1-10, 21-24. We took a science test today on the states of matter and the changing of the states of matter. Finally, in civics we learned about Congress and more specifically about the House of Representatives. We began a project learning about who represents us in Dearborn at both the federal and state level. Their homework is questions 1-8 on page 62.
